SPECIAL INSTRUCTION FOR IMPORT OF CARPETS, PAINTING, ART EFFECTS, ANTIQUES AND ITEMS  OF HISTORICAL VALUE.

When importing carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and item of historical value into Georgia, it is strongly suggested that a set of original photographs per item accompanies the shipping documentation.  Duplicate photographs of each item should be sent to your origin agent’s office in advance by courier, enabling them to get customs endorsement on the back of each photograph at the time of import customs inspection of the shipment.  This will help the owner tremendously to avoid problems with customs authorities at the time of export of these items out of Georgia. The photograph must have dimensions and value of the item shown, mentioned where possible on the back or front of each photo.

Export of locally purchased carpets and paintings is allowed, unless the items are not considered antique and of cultural value. The permission from Georgian Ministry of Culture is required to export locally purchased carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and other art effects.

HELPFUL TIPS:

If you are unsure whether you have to pay duties or do not know if it is possible to legalise your goods in the regime of temporary import or have any other doubts, regarding your household effect or general cargo, please contact our office prior to sending your shipment.

Mark the AWB / CMR / BOL very clearly “Used household goods and personal effects”.

Packing List should be in English or Russian.

Do not attach the inventory list used for insurance purpose with shipping documents enclosed with the shipment.

Pre-alert along with the copies of the AWB / CMR / BOL, Packing List, Valued Inventories and Shipping Schedules should be sent to our office by fax well in advance.

Two Photographs per carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and items of historical value should be taking before packing. One set of photos should accompany the original shipping documents with the shipment  and  the duplicate copies should be sent to our office in advance of shipment arriving into Georgia. The  photograph must have dimensions and value of the item shown, mentioned where possible on the back or front of each photo.

Please ask for consignment instructions before sending the shipment in order to avoid any extra storage/ demurrage charges.

NOTE:

It  is  strongly  recommend  to  issue  all  the  shipping  documents  very  carefully according to the above mentioned instructions, which is time consuming but it will definitely help you to avoid unnecessary delays and heavy storage charges at this end.

As experienced in the past, the customs regulations can change at any time with or without notice. Check with your origin agent for up-to-date regulations.
